Publication of Cambodia National Climate Change M&E framework workshop report

A high level workshop for the development of a national M&E Framework for climate change response was conducted under the auspices of IIED in collaboration with the Climate Change Department, Ministry of Environment of Cambodia and the Cambodia Climate Change Alliance (CCCA) on 12-13 December 2013. Recently, under the cooperation between the CCD, IIED and CCCA, the outcomes from the national M&E workshop are produced through the report publication.

Appropriate Technology Is a Mechanism to Promote Nationally Appropriate Actions for Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction

Phnom Penh - 21th March 2014, a workshop on Energy and Environment Technology: Capacity-Building Cooperation for the Development of NAMA in a MRV manner was organized by the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment (CCD) in cooperation with the Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center, Japan (OECC) in Cambodiana Hotel. The event is attended by about 70 representatives from ministries, and Cambodian/Japanese private companies. The objective of the workshop is to introduce environmentally sound technologies to mitigate the effects of climate change and to facilitate networking and match-making between Cambodian and Japanese companies for potential cooperation through technology transfer.

Adaptation Projects Contribute to Flood Preparedness and Response

The pilot climate change projects funded by CCCA are designed to increase the resilience of vulnerable communities to the long-term impacts of climate change, but these projects also bring more immediate benefits for local populations trying to adapt to current climate variability and extreme events. This was recently demonstrated during the floods which hit Cambodia between August and October 2013, affecting 21 provinces and over 400,000 households, and leading to the loss of at least 168 lives. Enhancing Knowledge on Climate Change at Mean Chey University

Banteay Meanchey - February, The Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Mean Chey University, organized a workshop on “Awareness Raising on Climate Change” participants, including females. The objective of the workshop is to raise awareness on the causes, impacts and responses to climate change. Mrs. Thiev Sokhom, Vice Rector of the university, mentioned that this is the first time that the university has cooperated with the Ministry of Environment and thanks to H.E. Minister of Environment and Director and officials of the Climate Change Department that supported and provided new knowledge on climate change for students.

Understanding climate change helps reduce disaster risk

 

Kampong Cham – 04 February 2014, The Ministry of Environment in collaboration with National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) with support from Cambodia Climate Change Alliance (CCCA) organized a workshop on Climate Change Awareness Raising and Disaster Risk Reduction in Kampong Cham City. The workshop aims at increasing awareness on climate change impacts and the strategies for disaster risk reduction. A total 26 officials from National and Provincial Committee for Disaster Management attended this workshop. The workshop is presided over by H.E. Pun Narith, Secretary General of National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) and H.E. Dr. Sabo Ojano, Secretary of State of Ministry of Environment.

Press Release: Climate Change Financing Framework Consultation Workshop, 28 Jan 2014

A consultation workshop on the Climate Change Financing Framework was organized by Climate Change Department of Ministry of Environment on 28 January 2014 at Intercontinental Hotel in Phnom Penh. Following the launch of Cambodia Climate Change Strategic Plan (CCCSP, 2014-2023), Cambodia needs to establish reliable, transparent and attractive financing mechanisms to effectively implement the Strategic Plan.

 

The financing framework includes an analysis of existing public spending on climate change, showing that about 7% of public expenditure in 2012 is directly related to Climate Change, and up to 46% have some degree of climate change relevance. Climate relevant expenditure is spread over a number of ministries and agencies, with the largest expenditures incurred by Ministry of Public Work and Transports, Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
