Least Developed Country Expert Group (LEG) Regional Training Workshop on Adaptation for Asian Least Developed Country (LDCs)

It has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that climate change is happening, and it is well accepted that the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are faced with the unavoidable challenge of coping with and adapting to adverse impacts, giventheir limited capacity.

The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is composed of 13 experts including 6 from African least developed countries (LDCs), 2 from the Pacific LDCs, 2 from Asian LDCs and 3 from developed countries (Netherlands, Finland and Norway). It provides technical support and guidance to the LDCs in undertaking measures to adapt to climate change at the national levels through a number of processes.

A New MoE-FAO Ecosystem-based Adaptation Initiative Launched

images/Article_PictuThe Ministry of Environment (MoE), with technical cooperation programme (TCP) funding from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO), organised a Participatory Rural Appraisal training and Project Consultation meeting in Siem Reap from 3-10 June 2013 under the project “Support to Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Using Micro-watershed Approaches.” MoE signed two-year TCP project agreement with FAO in 2012 to build national capacity and endorsed the high priority development of climate change adaptation, identified under the National Adaptation Programme of Action to Climate Change (NAPA), in order to mobilize resources from the Least Developed Country Fund (LDCF) to support Cambodia.

Bonn Climate Change Conference 2013: National Adaptation Plan Expo

nap expo opening 533Least Developed Countries including Cambodia participated in National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Expo which was held as an event to catalyze the launching of the NAP progress on 9 June, 2013 in Bonn Climate Change Conference. The NAP Expo aims at promoting a common understanding of the NAP process by going through the NAP guidelines, provide LDCs opportunity to communicate their plans for the formulation of NAPs, provide a platform for Parties, agencies and organizations to share information on their support to the LDCs on NAPs and offer a forum for the exchange of experience and best practices on planning, prioritizing and implementation of adaptation.

Cambodia Launched an Ambitious Project to Enhance Climate Resilience

IMG 8490 r The Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the United Nations for Environment Programme (UNEP) launched a new project entitled “Enhancing Climate Resilience of Rural Communities Living in Protected Areas in Cambodia” in its inception workshop held on 21May 2013 at Himawari Hotel in Phnom Penh. The objective of this inception workshop is to inform stakeholders about the launch of the project and to discuss with them best ways for project implementation. The opening ceremony of the workshop will be presided over by H.E. Dr. Mok Mareth, Senior Minister and Minister of Environment, with, participants from relevant Government ministries and agencies, UNEP and development partners, NGOs, academic institutions, the private sector and media. The workshop will be followed by a field visit to the proposed project sites in Kampong Thom and Preah Vihear Provinces.
