Cambodia’ Efforts in Response to Climate Change Are Addressing Climate Change Adaptation at Community and National Level

Warsaw, 14 November 2013 – “Climate change is not an option, we have to take it very seriously because it affects every aspects of our life”, said Tin Ponlok of the Cambodian Ministry of Environment in a side event “From integrated climate strategies to climate finance effectiveness: the role of mainstreaming and institutional strengthening” organised by the European Union at the side of the 19th UN Climate Conference.

The 14th National Climate Change Committee (NCCC) meeting was organized on 29 May, 2013 at the Ministry of Environment. Chaired by H.E. Dr. Mok Mareth, Senior Minister, Minister of Environment and Chairman​​ of NCCC, the meeting was participated by NCCC members from other state ministries. The meeting aims to review the implementation progress of two ambitious climate change programs: Cambodia Climate Change Alliance (CCCA) and Pilot Program for Climate Resilient (PPCR), the status of Cambodia climate change strategic plan development and the concept plan to organize the 3rd National Forum on Climate Change.

Cambodia/USAID sign MOU on Low Emission and Climate Resilient Development

IMG 503 r 0Phnom Penh, May 31, 2013 –The Chair of Cambodia’s National Climate Change Committee (NCCC) H.E. Senior Minister Dr. Mok Mareth and the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Mission Director Ms. Rebecca Black today signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate on Low Emission and Climate Resilient Development in Cambodia.

This MOU outlines specific areas for cooperation in the agriculture and forestry sectors and strengthens support to Cambodia for a rigorous greenhouse gas inventory, climate change capacity building, international coordination for green growth, and integrating climate change adaptation into green growth strategies.

CCSP Validation Workshop

Validation Workshop May 2013Nine line Ministries of the National Climate Change Committee validated eight strategic objectives of the Climate Change Strategic Plan during a two-day workshop in Sihanoukville on the 9-10th May 2013. The key line ministries also engaged in a range of highly participative discussions on the next steps of the CCSP development, including the drafting of climate change action plans.

The event was organised by the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment with the Cambodia Climate Change Alliance. It marks a key milestone in the strategic design process aiming to mainstream of climate change responses in the next strategic development plan of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
